So you’re nearly at the end of your pregnancy and there’s not long to go until baby puts in their appearance. Maybe you’ve even decided to take maternity leave a bit early in order to have some time to get ready and go through everything you need for your first baby checklist. But where do you start? Putting together a newborn essentials checklist can feel like a daunting task as there are just so many items you’ll need to have ready both for your baby bag checklistwhen you go into labour, and for your baby essentials checklist to make sure that your home is fully prepared for your little one’s arrival!

At Femette we’re here to make life for new mums as easy as possible so we’ve used our knowledge and experience of parenthood to put together a comprehensive newborn baby checklist printable which means you won’t miss a thing. So make yourself a cup of tea, treat yourself to a slice of cake and sit down with our handy preparing for baby checklist.

The checklist is divided into easy sections so you can see clearly what you need to buy and what it’s for. The good news is that with so many great baby stores online you don’t even have to leave the comfort of the sofa to tick off all the items on your new baby checklist. However if you fancy getting out and about why don’t you and your partner dedicate a day to perusing the shops for your baby checklist purchases? Don’t forget to take your newborn baby checklist printable with you so you can cross off everything as you get it! You could even use your baby checklist as the basis for a new baby gift list. This is a great idea for baby shower guests as they will be keen to buy you something that you really need.

Preparing your hospital checklist for baby

The first thing you’ll want to think about is your hospital checklist – for baby and you. Labour can often start before you reach full term at 40 weeks so it’s always best to be prepared. Have a hospital bag packed and ready by the door as the last thing you’ll want to be worrying about in labour is whether you have everything that you need! You’ll want to make sure you have baby essentials such as nappies, wipes and babygrows but you also need to ensure that you are well looked after too. You never know what will happen when you give birth and you may be in hospital for longer than anticipated so take spare nightclothes and big comfy knickers too. If you are planning to breastfeed you’ll want to pop a feeding bra in your bag along with some breastpads and nipple cream, and of course you’ll want to bring along your Femette too. So take some time to work through your newborn baby checklist printable and make sure that you have everything you need for your time in hospital.

Creating a baby friendly home

It can be quite a shock for new parents when they see just how much a new baby can take over their home! We think it’s always best to make sure that you have everything in place before your little one arrives as when they are here your time is going to be very limited. You can use your newborn checklist to make sure you create the perfect nursery and that your home is a baby friendly haven for your precious bundle. Of course you’ll want to make sure you’ve ticked all of the big items off your baby essentials checklist such as the cot and changing table but don’t forget the little things too as they can be just as vital. There are small practical items such as a thermometer to check your baby’s bathwater is the right temperature and a nappy bin to hide any nasty smells. If you are planning on bottle feeding or expressing it’s also a good idea to have bottles, sterilisers and breast pumps available and waiting in the kitchen cupboards. Our newborn baby checklist printable also includes some lovely ways to entertain your little one such as a cot mobile, baby play mat and bath toys. These are all fantastic ways to stimulate and interact with your baby as they start to grow and learn and they should form an important part of any preparing for baby checklist.

A first baby checklist for family health

When you start a family you’ll know that being in good health is vital for all of you so a good baby essentials checklist should always include a comprehensive medicine cabinet so that you have no need to panic in the middle of the night when you have a crying baby and no Calpol. Our newborn baby checklist printable covers a range of products for both you and your baby – from soothing Sudocrem and teething rings to Fybogel and nipple cream. You’ll definitely be glad you had these available easily to hand in the early days of parenting.

Getting out and about with baby

It’s really important for new mums to get out and about with their little ones. Fresh air and exercise are great for both mums and babies, and days out together are a lovely bonding experience.  Of course it’s important to travel safely so make sure that you have a good quality car seat for your baby and a baby car mirror is also a really useful item included in our newborn essentials checklist – so you can make sure your little one is happy in on your journeys. In the UK we know that the weather is never predictable so we’ve made sure that our newborn baby checklist planner covers everything you’ll need to take your baby out in rain or shine! Whether you’ll be using a parasol to keep the sun off your little one’s delicate skin or a rain cover to keep them snug and dry our first baby checklist has it covered.
